The F.I.R.R.E.A. regulations of the late 1980's brought on the onset of the licensing/certification of appraisers. If this wasn't enough of a task, the two major trade groups in the industry (The Society of Real Estate Appraisers and the American Institute of Appraisers), were in the midst of a merger. This merger promulgated the subsequent merger of the local individual Chapters, The Greater NY Chapter with the current N.Y. Metropolitan Chapter of the Appraisal Institute.
